Elliot Hocker
Originally from Portland, Oregon, USA, Elliot is a lifelong student of Jyotiṣa and Sanskrit. After attending the California College of Ayurveda in 2009, Elliot began studying Vedic astrology in the Śri Acyutānanda tradition under Freedom Cole. After completing SOL 1 and 2, he moved to Varanasi, India at the age of 21 where he began studying Sanskrit both in university and in the traditional guru-shishya tradition. He completed his Sanskrit diploma at Sampurnānanda Sanskrit University in 2017, and his B.A. (Śāstrī) in Vedic Astronomy (Gaṇita Jyotiṣa) from Banaras Hindu University in 2020. He enjoys studying all the traditional disciplines of Vedic science, including Veda, Vedānta, grammar, literature, and ritual. He is currently working on his M.A. in Jyotiṣa at Banaras Hindu University where he plans to do his PhD. He is also studying in Guru Pandit Sanjay Rath's 5-year Parāśara Jyotiṣa Course, 2023 Vishwanath batch, taught by Freedom Cole and Dr. Eric Rosenbush. Elliot is fluent in Sanskrit, Hindi, and English, and practices as a full-time astrologer, teacher, translator, writer, and muhūrta specialist. He offers beginner, intermediate, and advanced level classes for Jyotiṣa and Sanskrit, as well as private tutoring in Science of Light I and II, Parāśara Horā Śāstra, Muhūrta, Vedic mathematics, Astronomy, Sanskrit mantra, and Vedic ritual (pūjā). He is currently translating “Muhūrta Cintāmaṇi” and “Praśna Mārga” from Sanskrit to English with English commentary.
