12 Week Intermediate Course

Taught by Elliot Hocker, fluent in Sanskrit, Hindi, and English

In Level 1 we focus on phonetics and foundations. In Level 2 we begin learning Sanskrit grammar so we can bring the language to life — this is where the study of Sanskrit as a living language begins. This course continues from Sanskrit Level 1 where students built a solid foundation in reading, writing, and pronunciation. Now it’s time to focus on nouns, verbs, and sentences so we can put it altogether. This course is for students who want to improve comprehension and understand the meanings of words in Sanskrit so they can read Sanskrit books and derive their own meaning. Students learn noun tables for three genders of common vowel-ending nouns and pronouns, and common verb forms in 4 tenses (present, imperative, past, and future). The primary focus of this class is to empower students to read and understand sentences as they are found in Sanskrit literature.

Students will learn:

• Mantra and chanting fundamentals

• Sentence structure

• Noun tables

• Verb tables

• Lots of vocabulary words

• How to use a Sanskrit dictionary

• Translate sentences from Sanskrit to English

• All classes held live on Zoom

• All classes recorded and available online

• Course taught in English medium

• Must be able to chant the alphabet and read Devanāgarī script
